I loved the Common Sense Education Digital Glossary! We just had a conversation in the lunch room last week about a teacher finding a reference to "Netflix and chill" in a student's writing. The teacher was appalled and immediately addressed the inappropriate writing with that student. The funny thing is that the student had no idea what he wrote was bad. Likewise, the teachers in the lunch room had no understanding why that statement was bad. The teacher who identified the inappropriate statement knew its meaning because she has a high school aged daughter that keeps her on top of the latest teen lingo. The student had an older sibling and heard the term in use, but thought it meant relaxing and watching movies. The rest of us lunch room teachers had to Google the meaning. Wow - who would have thought it meant that! If you don't know, check out the Common Sense Education Digital Glossary. I think I'll bookmark that for future reference!
